We’re Having A Feminine Girl Fall—Here’s How

There’s something innately feminine about autumn. The season calls to mind tradition, warmth, comfort, and a sugary-spice flavor that’s oh-so-girly.

Looking for ways to embrace your own femininity as we step into fall? We’ve got you covered!

What We’re Doing

There’s no shortage of feminine activities to fill your schedule this fall.

Going Apple Picking

Soak in the last few sunny days of the year and tap into your inner “gatherer” by picking fresh apples straight from the orchard. In addition to being a classic fall tradition, there’s a certain peace of mind that comes from knowing exactly where the food that will nourish your body is coming from. Not to mention the old-fashioned “back to school” season nostalgia associated with apples that we just can’t get enough of.

Taking Long Walks

Crisp fall temperatures mean you can walk for longer and stay comfortable. Leave your headphones at home and awaken your senses to the sounds, sights, and smells of the season. If you can, leave some skin exposed so you can soak in all the vitamin D you can before the long winter ahead.

Decorating for the Season

The right décor gives every home a much-needed feminine touch. For a timeless autumn aesthetic, decorate with as many natural elements as possible. Think real mums, pumpkins, gourds, and leaves. Add some coziness with throw pillows, plush blankets, and fall candles, and voila – you’ve created the most welcoming, comfiest atmosphere for all of your at-home fall activities.

Fall Cleaning

Everyone buzzes about spring cleaning, but I'd argue that fall cleaning is even more essential. After all, you’ll want a clean and organized home since you’ll be spending more time there during the cooler months.

Fall is the perfect time to clean out your closet, rearrange your furniture for a reset, clean out the junk drawer, and organize the pantry. In other words, all the odds and ends projects you’ve put off all summer.

Treating Ourselves to Fall Mani/Pedis

If you’re like me and spent the past few months barefoot as often as possible, chances are you need a pedicure. Whether you do it yourself or head to the salon, having well-kept nails has a way of making you feel put-together and ready to face whatever autumn has in store.

As far as polish colors, you can’t go wrong with classic warm and spicy shades for fall. But if you feel like switching it up, cool, muted neutrals are also having a moment.

Lighting Our Fall Candles

Autumn marks the beginning of candle season, so cozy up with a blanket and awaken your senses with the soft flicker and warm aroma of your favorite fall candle.

Worried about the hormone disruptors in most mainstream candles? There’s no shortage of cleaner candle options on the market, so you can embrace all the cozy fall goodness without the questionable ingredients.

Booking a Fall Getaway

Fall is the perfect time to grab your guy and book a quiet weekend away. Go somewhere where you can be surrounded by nature and take in all the sights, sounds, and tastes that autumn has to offer.

Currently single? Make it a girls’ weekend! Plan on staying in, watching movies by the fire, indulging in fall treats, and catching up on good conversation.

Picking Up a New Skill or Hobby

With the weather cooling down and the days getting shorter, you’ll probably be indoors more often in the coming months – which likely means more downtime. Instead of binging the latest Netflix series night after night, take the opportunity to learn a new skill. Take up sewing, perfect the ultimate chicken noodle soup recipe, or get into journaling. In addition to being productive, you’ll awaken the feminine, creative side of your brain.

What We’re Eating and Drinking

From pumpkin pie to apple crisp and soups to casseroles, we wait all year for cozy fall foods. Here’s how we’re embracing the flavors of the season:

Pumpkin Spice Lattes

Obviously. The PSL has become the butt of basic fall girl jokes over the past few years, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying the seasonal treat. After all, is it really autumn without the signature pumpkin flavor in our morning brew?

The warm, sweet, and spicy drink’s only downside is its sugar content (a grande has a whopping 50 grams). There’s nothing wrong with indulging every now and then, but if the sugar overload is a dealbreaker, ask for half the amount of syrup. Or better yet, make your own at home so you can adjust according to your taste.

Bone Broth Hot Chocolate

Nutrient dense and chocolatey – two things I can’t say no to when it comes to a snack. Bone broth hot chocolate has been making the rounds on social media for a few years now, and it’s officially time to start whipping it up again for a late night treat.

Soup Sunday

Nothing gets me in my feminine fall feels more than having a big pot of soup simmering on the stove while my husband has the Lions game on in the background. Some of my go-tos lately have been a crowd-pleasing chipotle chicken chili, and this autumnal apple butternut squash soup:

And you can never go wrong with classic tomato soup:

Feel like tapping even further into your inner domestic goddess? Memories and nostalgia make everything taste better, so try your hand at family favorite soup recipes that you grew up eating.

Apple Everything

So you checked apple picking off your fall bucket list, and now you’re left wondering what to do with all those apples. Don’t fret. When it comes to cooking and baking, apples are the ultimate ingredient to add a touch of autumn to any dish.

Whether you’re in the mood for savory or you’re craving something sweet, there’s a way to add apples to the mix. Here are a few of our favorites:

Fall Mocktails

Sipping an autumnal drink sans booze is the perfect way to usher in the cooler weather. Go for classic flavors like pumpkin, apple, and chai, but don’t be afraid to add some late summer vibes to the mix – think fig, pear, and honey.

What We’re Wearing

When it’s finally time to pack away the linen sets and sundresses for the season, you’ll need a few new pieces to freshen up your feminine fall wardrobe. Here’s what we have our eye on:

Leather Pants

Faux leather pants are the ultimate way to transition your wardrobe into fall. Pair them with a basic top and gold accessories for a look that’s effortlessly chic.

Shirt Dresses

Autumn and vintage styles go together like pumpkin and spice, which makes the classic shirt dress a must-have for the -ber months. Flattering on all figures, the shirt dress subtly highlights your bustline, accentuates your feminine waist, and gently brushes over your hips for a look that’s structured but effortless.

Berets

With its wool construction and timeless French aesthetic, there’s no denying the beret is practical, chic, and the perfect way to elevate any fall ensemble.

Nervous that the beret look may feel a tad outside your comfort zone? Don’t stress: the shape is flattering on virtually all face shapes. For a casual “just threw this on” look, try not to overthink it. Pop it on with a casual outfit and head out the door:

Over-the-Knee Boots

I’ll never part with my UGGs, but sometimes an outfit calls for footwear that’s a little more flattering. Enter the over-the-knee boot – the sexy, feminine must-have shoe that adds a wow factor to your fall mini skirts and dresses.

With cooler weather on the horizon, it’s time to savor the slowness of the season. Make it a point to embrace your femininity with fun fall traditions, both new and old.
