This Might Be The Video That Ends The Hailey VS. Selena Narrative

Did this hour-long video just debunk the Hailey Bieber "Stalker" theory?

For over a decade, the internet has called Hailey Bieber a stalker. You’ve probably seen the seven-part TikTok docu-series. You’ve watched the viral video compilations of the Rhode founder copying Selena Gomez, read comments about her ten-year plan to steal Justin from Selena. But what if the story that went viral wasn’t actually the full story? What if it was, as pop culture channel Scandalous Media’s new breakdown calls it, a “decade-long lie”?

Their Families Were Connected

The story starts at the Today Show in 2009, where Hailey and Justin's so-called “first meeting” has been edited and recontextualized so many times that no one remembers the real story. However, Scandalous Media (let's call them SM for the rest of this piece) points out that this moment was a family introduction. Whether or not Hailey’s dad, Stephen Baldwin, intended for them to get together eventually is another question, but he did introduce her to Justin.

Interestingly, the "Baby" singer has joked about his marriage being "arranged." This doesn't mean it was true, of course, especially since Justin's job is to entertain.

In an old video showing their meeting, SM said, "It was Justin who remembered meeting Steven previously and even explained to him in detail where they met and why.”

The video also debunks the myth that Hailey showed up twice (once at the Today Show and once at a Toyota concert) by clarifying they were the same event: “Part of the Today Show's Toyota Concert Series in 2009," SM explained. They added, “Haley's family and Justin's family have already hung out a few times behind closed doors.” There’s even a bowling night photo to prove it, and Bieber recalls the lasagna that her mom made. Maybe the Baldwins just wanted to be friends with Justin and his mom.

Another moment labeled “stalker behavior” was Hailey’s presence at the Never Say Never premiere. But the video reminds viewers that she had been going to red carpet events long before that: “Including the Camp Rock premiere, One Direction's movie premiere, and many more.”

Also, they added, “These events are by invite only.”

That Hotel Scene

People love to reference a 2012 clip where Hailey is in the background at a hotel while Justin meets fans. TikTokers believed she was tailing him and Selena, but receipts say otherwise, according to SM. They said, “Those Jelena photos took place on February 25th 2012, in Sherman Oaks, California. Not in New York City.” The hotel footage was shot weeks earlier.

“There is no proof that 15-year-old Haley was stalking the same person she was bowling with, invited backstage at his tour, and extended an invitation to his movie premiere.”

The Fan DM Theory Falls Apart on Inspection

The video breaks down claims that Hailey DM’d fans for Justin’s location, especially one fan named Dana who said Hailey messaged her in 2012. Except SM revealed this was “without showing proof of that or even saying the name of the account.” You can watch her video below.

Dana provided screenshots years later, but “closer investigation shows that Haley didn’t reply to Dana’s message in May 2012.” In fact, “Dana DM’d Haley out of the blue on February 5th, 2013.”

The video challenges Dana’s story directly: “You're going to have to take my word for this one cause I don’t have it.”

Being a Fan Isn’t a Crime

Was Hailey a fan? Yes, obviously. Justin himself said, “People always asked me if I’d marry a Belieber—well, I did.”

The documentary calls out how the original TikTok series tried to paint Hailey doing the Call Me Maybe dance as some obsessed copycat moment. But in reality, Justin’s whole team had done the challenge to promote Carly Rae Jepsen, one of Scooter Braun’s clients.

More On Selena and Hailey

The documentary went over how Hailey was friends with the Jenners long before the internet started making timelines. “Kylie and Haley knew each other first,” and eventually, “Kylie introduced Haley to Kendall and the two became inseparable.”

They were just in the same friend circles. Hailey even starred in Cody Simpson’s music video and was dating Jesse Stevens around that time.

And that infamous photo of her holding a magazine with Justin and Selena on the cover was at the Monte Carlo premiere for a totally unrelated reason.

It was because “there was a photo of Cody Simpson on the front page talking about his new music video in which she starred.”

The Dubai Conspiracy Is a Stretch

Another viral theory was that Hailey, Kendall, and Gigi orchestrated a trip to Dubai to get Selena out of the picture. The video calls this out immediately, stating, “The Dubai New Year’s Eve party was actually a sponsored event thrown by the fashion house Balmain.”

Is Selena the Mean Girl?

This section’s a little thorny, but Scandalous Media doesn’t tiptoe around it. They show examples of Selena liking hate comments about Hailey, including ones calling her a “duck.”

“She would interact with hate accounts... while commenting hearts on anyone who hates on the Biebers.”

The video suggests that Selena “subconsciously put it into everyone’s heads that she is a victim of Justin and Haley’s relationship.” Whether that was intentional or not is up to the viewer.

Justin’s Complicated, Too

Justin wasn’t just a bystander, and while I have a lot of sympathy for what he (allegedly) went through, he played both ends for a long time. He flip-flopped between both women. He probably broke their hearts more times than we can count.

At the end of the day, he chose Hailey. Even he admitted in a 2016 GQ interview: “She’s someone I really love... What if Haley ends up being the girl I’m going to marry, right? If I rush into anything, if I damage her, then it’s always going to be damaged.”

He was still navigating trauma, fame, and all the messiness in between. And yes, he had only “experienced one bad breakup and that was with Selena.”

Final Thoughts

There are way too many instances that weren’t even covered—like how Hailey copied multiple of Selena’s outfits, sometimes down to the exact accessories. There was also that Vogue segment where Selena reviewed her past looks across the years, and then Hailey did the same thing months later. Maybe it was coincidence. Maybe it wasn’t. But it definitely happened more than once. So was Hailey influenced by Selena? Probably, but that's not a bad thing.

I feel bad for both women. I feel bad that Justin seemed to play both of them when they were younger, and I feel bad that they now have to deal with the ripple effect of that. Again, I sympathize with Justin, too. He grew up way too young in front of the world, probably didn’t even know who he was yet, and had to carry a relationship that wasn’t built to survive the weight of celebrity, trauma, and millions of opinions.

And I don’t think it’s fair to paint Selena as some unhinged, manipulative ex. She was a child star who got her heart broken over and over again. We don’t know what went down behind closed doors. Regardless, the internet rewards drama, not truth. And once people latch onto a narrative that gets them views, they’re not letting it go—no matter how many facts you hand them.
