Modern dating in America is not for the faint of heart, but what if moving to a different state improves your odds of finding “the one"? Of course, I’m not suggesting that anyone should pack up their bags and move across the country, but I can at least tell you if your city is a bad hub for dating.

According to a new report, certain cities have factors like affordability, nightlife, and the ratio of single men to single women that can either work in your favor or make your search for love feel like an uphill battle. So, if you’ve been struggling in the dating scene, it might not be you – it could be your location.

Per TimeOut, FetishFinder analyzed the 20 largest cities across the U.S. based on six key factors: the population of single people, the odds of tying the knot, the annual divorce rate, the number of people actively searching for a relationship, and the overall quality of life and cost of living.

Their report read, "New York may have the highest population of single individuals, but it's also the worst city in the U.S. to start dating. By all metrics except for the population of singles, New York lags behind other cities. This ranking is due to New York's high cost of living, low quality of life, high divorce rates, and, despite its large single population, the lowest number of people actively searching for a relationship."

I have friends who live in New York, and I can concur that the dating scene in the Big Apple is a hot mess. Here are the other cities that ranked in the top 10 as the worst for dating.

1. New York

2. Los Angeles

3. Philadelphia

4. Chicago

5. San Antonio

6. Fort Worth, TX

7. San Diego

8. Houston

9. Phoenix

10. San Jose, CA
