Our readers (and writers) have a lot in common. We want to be in tune with our bodies and nature, prioritize family, and continue to make improvements for the betterment of our lives. In today’s society, we’re encouraged to be self-centered, have casual sex, forget commitment, and accept anything as truth. But here at Evie, we keep it real, natural, and beautiful. Despite the media’s voice telling us to be stagnant and content, our readers have made it clear that their resolutions for the New Year revolve around being the best version of themselves.

Here are the 25 most common resolutions for 2023, according to our readers.

1. Prioritize Spiritual and Mental Health

This was a common answer, as many of our readers want to focus more on their emotional well-being. This time of year reminds us of our faith, and we spend extra time with family, which puts things into perspective. It's easy to let the hustle and bustle distract us from things that really matter, but we will start the New Year with good intentions!

2. Practice Having More Patience

All of us could learn to be a little more patient. In today’s world, pretty much everything is at our fingertips, but it’s good for us to learn to wait on things. We might always be looking for the next thing to make us happy, when in reality, we have everything we need to be content and satisfied with our lives. Having more patience will not only benefit us personally, but also help us grow our relationships with family and friends.

3. Learn More About Hormonal Health

Not only does Evie prioritize hormonal health, but so do our readers. Learning more about how your body works as a woman keeps you healthier and happier. Don’t forget about our newest cycle-based fitness app, 28, where you can learn the tools you need to naturally regulate your cycle and feel your best!

4. Grow Stronger in Marriage

We live in a self-love culture, but here at Evie, our girls know that a happy marriage makes for a happy and fulfilled life. In 2023, our readers said they want to do what it takes to grow closer to their spouse and become the best wife they can be.

5. Uphold Commitments

All of us know how it is to have good intentions but not follow through with our commitments. But upholding commitments is essential if you want people to know that you’re trustworthy and reliable. So this coming year, we will follow through with the things we said we’ll do and we won’t bite off more than we can chew.

6. Learn How To Cope Better with Stress

This one applies to me too, because I am my own worst enemy sometimes when it comes to stress. Life can feel crazy and overwhelming, but we need to learn to deal with it. Mental illness culture is not cute and doesn’t help our well-being. So whether we need therapy, better diet and nutrition, or creating better habits, we need to find a way to cope with the things life throws at us.

7. Utilize More Natural Remedies for Pain Management

It seems like any time you go to the doctor with an issue, they write you a prescription. But popping a pill is usually just a bandaid for whatever the real issue is. There are a million natural remedies that can manage your pain, and usually just lifestyle changes make all the difference.

8. Plan Fun Activities

If you’re trying to manage stress, adding fun to your life can help. This year, try to be intentional about winding down or planning something fun for you and your family. It will bring you closer together and help keep you sane.

9. Find a Boyfriend/Potential Husband

Several of our readers mentioned this one. If you know what you’re looking for in a potential spouse, then go ahead and enter the dating world. Some people prefer to meet someone organically, but it’s okay to keep an eye out for someone who is husband material. Set your standards and find your future man. He might be right around the corner.

10. Become Financially Stable

Life can become very hard if you’re struggling financially. Budget your money and learn how to save so that you can live life comfortably. This might mean adjusting your spending habits, or finding a career that fits your lifestyle.

11. Make More Money

Similar to becoming financially stable, many of our readers mentioned that their goal for the New Year is to make more money. Maybe you’re already stable, but there’s nothing wrong with setting goals to become better. You might try and work your way to a promotion, or start a side hustle, or maybe get a new job.

12. Get Fit

We're willing to bet that this is most people's New Year's resolution. Just walk into any gym in January, and you’ll see that you’re not alone. The holidays are great, but it’s so tempting to overeat and forget to follow through with your goals. But finish off this year and enter the new one with the goal of becoming a better version of yourself.

13. Drink More Water

Getting fit isn’t just in the gym, it’s about our diet and nutrition too. Staying hydrated has a bunch of benefits, such as increasing energy, suppressing appetite, and boosting your overall health. So many of us are regularly dehydrated, which comes with its own list of negatives.

14. Prioritize Sleep

Your sleeping habits affect the rest of your life. It can help or hurt your health, mental cognition, and energy levels. Get yourself into a routine so that you can function well during the day. Set a bedtime and wake-up time, and try to be consistent.

15. Limit Screen Time

It’s easy to get in the habit of scrolling endlessly for hours on end. But this isn't doing anyone any favors, especially at night time, as looking at artificial light on a screen during the hours of 10 pm to 4 am is known to negatively affect our mental health. Limiting screen time can help you prioritize things that matter and allow you to become more present and productive.

16. Take More Risks

Maybe this year, your goal is to take more risks in life. How many of us do the same old thing day after day, without realizing that we are never progressing? Trying something new and even a little risky might be just what we need to switch things up and add some excitement to our lives.

17. Learn More About Homemaking

Many Evie Girls said their resolution was to become a better homemaker. Specifically, some girls said they wanted to learn sewing. Learning home economic skills like sewing, cooking, cleaning, etc., will not only be an advantage to you, but also your family.

18. Get Better at Time Management

Right up there with upholding commitments, time management is a key factor in being a responsible person. Some of us might struggle to be timely, but making it a goal for yourself will help you improve.

19. Cut Out Bad Habits

I’m sure all of us have guilty pleasures and habits we could afford to lose. For the longest time, ice cream was my guilty pleasure. I got to the point where I was eating it pretty regularly. But my husband and I decided to cut it out for a while, and now I don’t even think about it. Whatever your bad habit is, big or small, set goals to get rid of it, and get someone to hold you accountable.

20. Dress Better

Many readers had the goal of dressing better. Maybe this means at your job, school, or just in everyday life, but dressing well gives you confidence. If you don’t know where to start, refer to our many Evie style articles for some advice, and then add in your own personal touch.

21. Move Out on My Own

Renting and the housing market can make moving out a little more difficult than it used to be, but you’ll know when it’s time to take that step. Moving out on your own can give you a new outlook on life and teach you more responsibility. You will most likely not move into your dream home the first time you move out, but you have to start somewhere.

22. Start Journaling

If you’re someone who has trouble coping with anxiety or just has a lot to get off your chest, then journaling might be the thing for you. When you write things down, it helps you better explain to yourself how you’re feeling and to rationalize the situation. This is a good habit to start for better mental health.

23. Read More Books

This has been a personal goal of mine in the last few years, but it was also a common answer in our resolution poll. Reading is one way to relax and is a good way to learn new things. Maybe you want to feel like you’re in a whole new world with some fiction, or you might read some how-to books. With all the different books out there, your options are endless.

24. Become the Best Mother I Can Be

This is such a wholesome goal. It might look different from woman to woman, but your kids will appreciate the importance you place on being their mother. You only have so many years before your kid will become an adult and move out on their own. Make the most of the time you have with them now.

25. Become More Organized and Tidy

As Jordan Peterson says, “Set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world.” If your house is in chaos, it’s likely your entire life is a bit chaotic as well. Staying organized gives us a bit of peace when facing the world. Start at home and clean things up, and get rid of the mess. You will feel so much peace afterward.

Closing Thoughts

When setting resolutions, make them realistic. And be kind to yourself when trying to complete them. Take the new year one day at a time, and strive to be your best. It’s refreshing to see that so many readers of Evie have such wholesome and wise resolutions. May 2023 be your best year yet!
