Sydney Sweeney And Amanda Seyfried Will Star In "The Housemaid"
Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are set to star in a psychological thriller together, and we couldn't be more excited.
Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are set to star in The Housemaid, an upcoming psychological thriller based on Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel. Paul Feig, the acclaimed director behind Bridesmaids and A Simple Favor, will lead the film as Lionsgate brings the book to life.
Sweeney, best known for her work in Euphoria and the romcom Anyone But You, will play a struggling young woman named Millie, who works as a housemaid for a wealthy couple, Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester. However, it doesn’t take long for Millie to realize that the family’s secrets are far more disturbing and darker than hers.
The film has already generated plenty of buzz on social media, especially considering the powerhouses behind it. "Part of the fun of the book was imagining the cast while we read it," said Erin Westerman, co-president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. "Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect for Millie and Nina – they're both mysterious, nuanced, and incredibly skilled at becoming characters who don’t reveal everything right away."
She continued, “We’re thrilled to team them with Paul Feig, who we worked with on A Simple Favor and its upcoming sequel and has a proven track record of developing stories with dynamic female leads.”
Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, also praised the star-studded lineup: “A great filmmaker and a great cast with a great script from a great book is a terrific place to start. My prior work experiences with Paul and Amanda have been nothing short of spectacular, and Sydney is as talented and compelling as can be.” Considering Feig’s success with A Simple Favor and its upcoming sequel, it’s no wonder expectations are high for The Housemaid.
Rebecca Sonnenshine is adapting the screenplay for the movie, which is being produced by Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman, along with Feig and Laura Fischer. Sweeney and Seyfried are also stepping into executive producer roles alongside Alex Young and McFadden.
For those who haven’t yet read McFadden’s gripping novel, The Housemaid follows Millie as she moves into the Winchesters' luxurious home, only to find herself living in a room that locks from the outside. Nina’s erratic behavior, combined with the eerie circumstances Millie finds herself in, leaves her questioning who she’s really working for.
With The Housemaid already boasting more than 3.6 million copies sold, 75 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, and over half a billion pages read on Kindle, it’s clear that this story has struck a chord with readers. Now, it’s time for audiences to see Sweeney and Seyfried bring these characters to life on the big screen.
