Rihanna Says Jay-Z Joked About "Throwing Her Out the Window" From The 29th Floor If She Didn’t Sign A Deal With Him
In a resurfaced video from 2005, Rihanna reveals the ultimatum that Jay-Z gave her: "There are two ways to leave here, either through the door with the deal signed. Or through this window, and we’re on the 29th floor.”
In 2005, a young Rihanna appeared on The Tyra Banks Show and shared an interesting story about meeting Jay-Z for the first time. She was just 16 years old when she met the rapper.
Fast forward almost two decades later, and that very story has resurfaced. However, in light of recent allegations against Jay-Z, people are watching this old interview through a very different lens.
While speaking with Tyra Banks, Rihanna recalls being nervous for her upcoming audition with Jay-Z. The singer said the atmosphere of the rapper’s office was “warm and welcoming.” She sang Pon de Replay and another song. Jay-Z tells her, “We don’t sign songs here, we sign artists.”
Banks then presses her on what Jay-Z told her that day: “He said something about a window when a door," the model said.
Rihanna laughs and reveals that Jay-Z said, “There are two ways to leave here: either through the door with the deal signed, or through this window, and we’re on the 29th floor."
At first glance, it seems like a harmless joke – but now social media users are wondering if he was for real. Just this week, a lawsuit was filed accusing Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 2000 during the MTV Video Music Awards after-party.
Jay-Z, of course, has strongly denied the accusations, calling them “idiotic” and urging the accuser to pursue criminal charges instead of a civil suit. And when you add this to the fact that Diddy’s already facing his own set of serious allegations – well, let’s just say the timing of Rihanna’s resurfaced story isn’t exactly ideal for Jay-Z.
One commenter on Reddit asked, “Soooo it’s sign and do what I want? Or don’t sign and you die?” Was Jay-Z’s "window" remark just a bad joke, or was it a veiled threat? It doesn’t help that Jaguar Wright has claimed that Jay-Z trafficked Rihanna when she was only 16. Wright alleged that Rihanna was “trafficked” at the age of 16 and claimed that the whole story behind Rihanna’s discovery had been covered up.
According to Wright, Rihanna was found by producer Evan Rogers at 3 a.m. in a hotel in Barbados, alone and without parental supervision. She was then allegedly placed on a private plane to the U.S., where she ended up meeting Jay-Z in a boardroom without any parental oversight. Wright goes further, claiming that Rihanna’s father didn’t show up until 24 hours later to collect a half-million-dollar check.
This is a chilling claim, and it certainly doesn’t help Jay-Z’s image right now. Although there’s no definitive evidence backing up these allegations, Wright's comments have only made things worse for Jay-Z.
