“Bogus F*cking Platform”—Nicki Minaj Calls Out YouTube For Age-Restricting Her New Music Video ‘Likkle Miss’

Nicki Minaj released her new music video for "Likkle Miss" on YouTube. Just one day after, YouTube notified Minaj that her music video is not suitable for minors and has thus age-restricted the video. Minaj went on Instagram to post a screenshot of the notice from YouTube. Nicki believes it was done on purpose to stop her from getting millions of views in the first 24 hours and implies that YouTube is paid by other management companies to do so. “It’s time ya’ll tell ppl that you’re in bed with a whole RECORD LBEL & MNGMENT COMPANY!!!!” she writes. She also claims that YouTube is “faking stats” and is playing “the numbers game.”

In her first Instagram post on the topic, Nicki writes in her caption, “They restricted my f*cking video but have things a million f*cking times worse on their BOGUS FKNG PLATFORM. this is what they do to keep you from winning while doing ads for other ppl and posting FAKE FKNG STATS. 😂😂😂😂😂 because the same ppl who run YouTube are in bed with a certain record label and mngmnt company.” [sic]

In a second post, Nicki wrote, “This was done to stop us from getting a lot of views in the first 24 hours. The DUDS at my label allow ppl to use my videos all the time to promote weak sh*t but said we can’t buy promo for my videos. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 @youtube@youtubemusic it’s time y’all tell ppl that you’re in bed with a whole RECORD LABEL & MNGMNT COMPANY!!!!! HOW LONG HAVE YALL BEEN PLAYING THE NUMBERS GAME TO LIE & PRETEND PPL R DOING 'GOOD' WHEN THEY R NOT?!?!! HOW MUCH AD SPACE DID THESE DUDS PURCHASE TO BE PROMOTED ON MY CHANNEL IN THE LAST 5 YEARS?!??!!!! #LikkleMissREMIXVideo.” [sic]

Nicki’s new music video, “Likkle Miss,” features women in revealing clothing twerking on men. Though there is no nudity, there are sexual gestures and explicit lyrics. According to YouTube’s policy, videos that are not appropriate for children under the age of 18 are to be restricted. One of the themes that the website lists as inappropriate for children is “video[s] that invites sexual activity, such as provocative dancing or fondling,” which is what Nicki Minaj’s music video depicts. Likewise, it also features women in lingerie – another theme that YouTube does not allow children to see. Still, there are other inappropriate music videos hosted on YouTube that are currently not age-restricted. While Nicki Minaj’s video is definitely not meant for minors, it seems YouTube is inconsistent when it comes to child safety on its platform.
