Mila Kunis Said It Was "Insane" That Will Smith Got A Standing Ovation For His Academy Award After Slapping Chris Rock On Stage
Actress Mila Kunis hasn't been acting very often these days, but she and her husband Ashton Kutcher attended the Academy Awards earlier this year. They were some of the only ones in the audience who didn't stand up and applaud Will Smith after he was granted the Oscar for best actor. She explained why in a recent interview.

Mila and Ashton have two children and have been primarily focused on their family life lately. But in a recent interview with C Magazine, she opened up about what she has witness in Hollywood lately. She was displeased with seeing violence at the Academy Awards and somewhat appalled that so many people would grant Will Smith a standing ovation after witnessing the incident.
Mila Kunis Said It Was "Insane" That Will Smith Got a Standing Ovation For His Academy Award After Slapping Chris Rock on Stage
On March 27, Will Smith stormed the stage at the Academy Awards to slap comedian Chris Rock on the face after he made a passing joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's haircut. The whole crowd was stunned and many people believed it to be a skit of some kind. But it was clear that it wasn't a joke for Will; he yelled from his seat after he returned from slapping Chris, "Leave my wife's name out of your f***ing mouth!"
Many celebrities have offered their opinion on what happened that night, and Mila was confused about why Will was given such a warm welcome after his behavior. She and Ashton didn't join the standing ovation when he was given the Academy Award for best actor.
“The idea of leading by example only makes sense when you actually have someone to lead," she said. "We have our tiny little tribe here at home, and never once do I want to tell them to do something if I’m not willing to do it myself. Not standing up to me was a no-brainer, but what was shocking to me was how many people did stand up. I thought, wow, what a time we’re living in that rather than do what’s right, people focus on doing what looks good. It’s insane to me.”
Mila also spoke about how important it is for her to be with her kids. She only takes new roles if she's able to film during the kids' summer break. She also became heavily involved in raising donations for Ukrainians after the Russia Ukraine war started. She and Ashton raised almost $40 million to send supplies to Ukrainians in need. She was born in Ukraine and moved to the US when she was only a child.
“I’m American,” she said. “I assimilated so quickly. I don’t speak Ukrainian, and my Russian is stunted at an 8-year-old level. But I will say that this war gave me a sense of identity larger than being just American. Having kids changes your perspective. When I was in my twenties, even my teens, my drive was always ‘how can I be more successful at work?’ After I had kids, it was ‘how can I be a person that I want my kids to admire?’ So I went from career growth to self-growth. When the war broke out, my kids identified that Ukraine was a part of me before I did. They were like, ‘Mom, isn’t that where you’re from? Do we have family there? There’s a war happening—what are we doing about it?’”
She and Ashton have settled into a modern farmhouse as their home, where they grow their own food and live mostly off the grid. "We didn't realize how incredible it was to have a fully sustainable house until the world shut down," she explained.
