Mary Kate Cornett Drama Explained—Did She Really Sleep With Her Boyfriend's Dad, Erik Solis?
Did Mary Kate Cornett hook up with her boyfriend’s dad, as the internet claims—or is the real story much darker?

The Mary Kate Cornett drama has completely taken over X (formerly Twitter), turning her into the latest target of an internet mob.
To summarize, a young college student named Mary Kate Cornett has a boyfriend named Evan. She allegedly cheated on her with his father, Erik Solis. What started this rumor mill was an unverified Snapchat message. From there, social media users ran with it, bullying Cornett, creating meme coins (have we not learned from Hawk Tuah?), and wasting time debating whether this whole thing even happened.
The Infamous Screenshot
It all kicked off when an alleged Snapchat message surfaced, claiming that University of Mississippi student Mary Kate Cornett had an affair with her boyfriend Evan’s father. The message itself reads like it came from a confused valley girl who’s hearing the story from her friend, who heard it from another friend, who heard it from yet another friend…You can check it out below:
If you don’t feel like reading that (I don’t blame you), the message alleges that Mary Kate went home early from school to watch her boyfriend Evan’s sister play basketball. She went with his dad, they had dinner and drinks, and apparently, they hooked up. Evan found out, got upset, and Mary Kate promised she wouldn’t do it again, though she’s been described as a "liar." The mom knows about it but isn’t divorcing because of Mary Kate. The dad has reportedly cheated on her multiple times before.
It’s barely coherent and full of secondhand speculation, yet it took off. The phrasing is questionable, too, as it refers to Evan as "Evan the boyfriend," making it sound like the sender doesn’t even know him well. Meanwhile, the tweet containing this message had thousands of likes and shares.
The Other Side of the Story?
Another screenshot has emerged, this time from someone who sounds more believable – yet, like the first one, remains unconfirmed. The sender states that some parts of the rumor are true, but most aren’t.

According to this person who is close to Evan and Mary Kate, the real story is that Mary Kate went home early after exams and was babysitting Evan’s sister. Afterward, Mr. Solis took her out to dinner, got her extremely drunk, and said he was taking her home, but instead brought her to his house. Mary Kate expected Mrs. Solis to be there to help, but she was away on a work trip. Mr. Solis then allegedly tried to assault Mary Kate, but she escaped, called an Uber, and got home. Mrs. Solis later found out, and while the divorce was still up in the air, Mr. Solis had a history of cheating and being generally awful. He was also known for being weird at parties and allegedly hitting Evan. Evan and Mary Kate initially broke up over the situation but recently got back together.
This version is obviously a lot different than the one that’s going viral. Additionally, X users did some digging and found Evan’s mother’s LinkedIn profile, which listed her as a flight attendant, which may support the claim that she was out of town at the time.
However, Evan has broken his silence on Instagram. In a new post on February 28, 2025. He denied the allegations, including the horrific claims about his father. "These past couple of days have been extremely difficult for everyone in my life. The unbelievable rumors about my family and Mary Kate’s are unacceptable and need to be addressed. The accusations are unequivocally false. Also, my faith in my father and our relationship is unwavering," he shared in his caption. "He is wholly innocent and being unfairly slandered with no opportunity to speak on his own behalf prior to these horrendously false statements."
He continued, "I appreciate the support from everyone who knows us well enough to negate the claims and shut it down. I also want to thank everyone who has reached out to my family and hers with kind words and reassurances."
"Please know that spreading outrageous accusations with no regard to veracity is as inexcusable as starting the rumor itself. What we say and believe have real consequences for others. I pray we can use this painful moment to learn and grow going forward."
It didn’t take long for the internet to latch onto the cheating story. Barstool’s Kevin Clancy covered it in a video. Of course, X immediately fired back, with one user noting, "Barstool got the guy who cheated on his pregnant wife to tell y’all about Mary Kate." Clancy’s coverage is just another example of how internet outrage is often fueled by those who have no moral high ground to stand on.
The internet did what it does best by turning the scandal into a meme. Screenshots of absurd Snapchat messages attributed to "Mary Kate" began circulating, with captions like "i need a rebound just pretend ur taller than me" and "i need a rebound ur hot."
The whole thing became so ridiculous that a meme cryptocurrency, the Mary Kate Cornett (MKC) token, popped up on the Solana blockchain.
Mary Kate Cornett Responds
Mary Kate and her father have now issued a statement, denied the accusations, and described the situation as a coordinated cyberattack. She claims that edited screenshots, AI-generated videos, and manipulated photographs have been used to spread falsehoods, leading to doxxing and threats against her. Law enforcement, including the University of Mississippi campus police, local police, and the FBI, have been contacted regarding the matter.
Her father, Justin Cornett, said the situation was a "totally false, malicious, organized and defamatory cyber attack." He claims their family has been forced to take safety measures and has engaged forensic investigators to track down those responsible.
While some continue to believe the rumor, others have pushed back against the internet mob. Commentator Allie Beth Stuckey weighed in and tweeted, "Absolutely ridiculous that this poor Mary Kate girl had her life ruined over completely unsubstantiated and ludicrous claims. When I first dug into this story, I couldn’t believe it was really a bunch of grown-ups spreading a sex story about a random college girl for no reason and with no evidence."
Some believe the story is completely true, pointing to the resurfaced LinkedIn information of Erik Solis and the now-private Instagram accounts linked to those involved. Others are skeptical, with one now-deleted tweet putting it bluntly, "I feel like the Mary Kate Cornett situation is fake because where even is the proof? Just a random snapchat message? Ruining someone's life over that seems crazy. Pretty sure it's just a crypto rugpull and someone made up a fake story."
If Mary Kate was actually a victim, as the second message claims, then this is a horrific example of how online mobs can destroy reputations overnight. If none of it happened at all, then this is a testament to how easily the internet can manufacture life-ruining rumors.
