Make Europe Great Again: Why The American Movement Inspiring Millions Also Resonates In Europe
Since Donald J. Trump arrived at the White House, his motto “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) has not only changed the course of American politics, but has also sparked a wave of hope and renewal across the Atlantic.
Today, the spirit of his movement has taken root in Europe and inspired a whole generation of Europeans to “Make Europe Great Again” (MEGA). How? Reconnecting with their traditions, rediscovering their pride, and reclaiming their national sovereignty.
Drain the EU Swamp, Too
As a young Spanish expat working in Brussels, where EU policies are devised, shaped and imposed on European nations by a huge unelected bureaucracy, MAGA’s call to drain the swamp resonates with me as with millions of other Europeans. I witness daily how Eurocrats deliberately ignore the real challenges of our society, like radical Islamic immigration or plummeting birth-rates, while pushing for a ludicrous woke and green agenda completely disconnected from reality. I’m fed up with it, and I’m not the only one.
The Woke Eurobubble
If you thought woke censorship under the Biden Administration was scandalous, you’d be blown away by what has been happening in Europe recently. A friend of mine who is an EU employee and used to write opinion articles as a hobby, in her free time, was one day given a warning by the ‘Ethics Department’ at her workplace. They wanted her to stop writing those articles without submitting them for previous approval, as she was discouraged from criticizing the EU mess she works in. I insist: she wrote those articles in her free time.
It’s just one example of the aggressive control EU elites have been exerting lately, as Eurocrats vowed to fight “dis” and “misinformation”. However, Donald Trump’s victory and promise to protect free speech is a serious setback to them.
The Political Awakening of the European Youth
While the woke bubble in Europe is beginning to crumble, young people’s interest in conservative, nationalist and right-wing politics is growing. We have simple tastes: we want to marry, form a family, have a decent job to pay our rent, and live peacefully, as our grandparents once did. Yet the system keeps failing us. That’s why we are looking for new, inspiring leaders.
In France, Marine Le Pen, leader of Rassemblement National, has attracted a significant portion of the youth, tired of Emmanuel Macron’s liberal policies. In Spain, where I’m from, the VOX party has experienced considerable growth, reaching nearly 30% of the vote among those under 25, according to the latest polls. VOX’s leader, Santiago Abascal, openly represents the same values as Donald Trump.
Young Europeans are demanding a change that has already happened in America. MEGA is in motion, and Europe’s future could be more patriotic than ever before. Elon Musk has also acknowledged this European awakening. On X, he recently posted: ‘From MAGA to MEGA: Let’s Make Europe Great Again!’
The Rise of “Patriots For Europe”
The European political party behind MEGA is named “Patriots for Europe”. Patriots has brought together the aforementioned Rassemblement National and VOX, among many other right-wing parties across Europe, with a clear message: return control of their countries to Europeans, end the woke madness, protect free speech, fight illegal immigration, and strengthen economic and industrial sovereignty. Their philosophy follows in Trump’s footsteps, focusing on real problems and pragmatic solutions.
This group was founded on June 30, 2024, and since then they have been staunch supporters of Trump. So much so that he personally invited them to Washington DC for his Inauguration. Santiago Abascal, who was chosen leader of Patriots, headed the delegation. At the same time, Trump’s victory was celebrated in the heart of the EU with MAGA red caps and MEGA navy-blue ones, an image that instantly triggered liberals.
However, Patriots for Europe, despite representing a combined 19 million votes, faces strong opposition from other left and even center-right parties, which have allied to marginalize them simply for wanting to follow Trump’s recipes.
Reclaiming Our Roots
But MEGA is not just a political reaction; it’s a cultural movement. In a world where homogenization seems to be the norm, this movement advocates for the revaluation of traditions and cherishing the identity of each European nation. In Hungary and Italy, with conservative prime ministers, the defense of Christian traditions has gained strength, while in France and Spain, still governed by the left, the interest of their national history and the protection of local culture is becoming a priority among the people.
In my home country, this cultural resistance is becoming increasingly evident. Young men are awakening, reflecting on the past. "We literally live among the ruins of a civilization superior to our own”, they say, in reference to the once-prosperous Spain that their grandfathers strenuously built, which the left has ruined in the last few decades. Women are also looking back with nostalgia: despite cries from the purple-haired feminists within Spain’s left-wing government, the “Trad Wife” movement went viral shortly after doing so in America. There’s no doubt that this Summer we’re bound to witness seas of European women in the viral milkmaid dress.
In Europe, the revival of femininity is closely linked to the recovery of cultural and national identity. While Eurocrats push for legislation that dilutes national identity and attacks the traditional concept of family, Hungary, with a still-vibrant Christian heritage, has implemented successful pro-natalist policies based on economic incentives for families and resistance to gender ideology in education. In this matter, it may actually be the Trump Administration following the proven recipes of Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, also a member of Patriots for Europe, of whom President Trump once said “It’s like we’re twins!”
Final Thoughts
The tide is turning. The old establishment, which for decades has undermined national sovereignty, eroded traditional values, and imposed a top-down globalist agenda, is losing its grip. Across Europe, Gen Z and Millennials are awakening to a new reality: one where patriotism is not demonized, where history is celebrated rather than rewritten, and where the future is reclaimed by those who cherish their identity and traditions. MEGA is not just a slogan—it’s a call to action. It’s about restoring the Europe that once led the world in culture, innovation, and civilization.
It’s about rejecting the artificial constructs of the woke elite and reconnecting with the authentic spirit of our nations. It’s about reclaiming what is ours—our borders, our values, our freedom. As we move forward, one thing is clear: this is just the beginning. The alliance between America’s MAGA and Europe’s MEGA is growing stronger by the day, and despite the efforts of the establishment to silence us, our voices will not be ignored. The youth of Europe are rising, demanding change, and ensuring that the next chapter in our history will be one of pride, prosperity, and national renewal.
