Her diverse discography, boundary-pushing music videos, and dynamic stage performances have profoundly influenced popular music, earning her the title "Queen of Pop." However, she just had a health scare that landed her in the hospital.
Madonna Rushed to Hospital with "Serious Bacterial Infection" and Remained in ICU for Several Days
Madonna was found unresponsive and subsequently rushed to a hospital in New York City last Saturday. The singer, age 64, was intubated for at least one night before the tube was removed. Madonna is reportedly now alert and on the road to recovery. Throughout the entire ordeal, Madonna's daughter, Lourdes Leon, remained by her side. The pop legend's longtime manager, Guy Oseary, took to Instagram to shed light on her condition. He stated that Madonna "developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several-day stay in the ICU." Although she is now out of the ICU, she remains under medical care. A full recovery is expected.
A bacterial infection is a condition that occurs when harmful bacteria invade the body and multiply, causing harm to the body's normal functions. Bacteria are single-celled microorganisms that exist virtually everywhere, including within our bodies. While many bacteria are harmless or beneficial, some can cause disease.
Bacterial infections can be caused by direct contact with infected individuals, consumption of contaminated food or water, exposure to harmful environments, or through vector-borne transmission (such as ticks or mosquitoes). They can affect various parts of the body, including the skin, lungs, urinary tract, or bloodstream.
Treatment typically involves antibiotics, medicines designed to kill bacteria or stop them from multiplying. Antibiotics can be broad-spectrum, affecting a wide range of bacteria, or narrow-spectrum, targeting specific bacteria. The choice of antibiotic depends on the type of bacteria causing the infection, the patient's overall health, and potential antibiotic resistance. However, the misuse or overuse of antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance, where bacteria evolve to become resistant to these drugs. This underscores the importance of using antibiotics as prescribed by healthcare professionals and emphasizes the need for preventive measures, such as good hygiene and vaccination, to avoid bacterial infections.
Just recently, the award-winning performer celebrated the graduation of her 10-year-old twins, Estere and Stella, from elementary school. In an Instagram post last week, Madonna shared a picture of the girls, dressed in blue caps and gowns, each clutching a bouquet of flowers.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of Madonna's illustrious music career. To commemorate this milestone, she announced earlier this year the launch of her "Celebration" tour. The tour, encompassing 84 dates worldwide, was scheduled to commence on July 15 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. However, her recent health scare has necessitated a postponement. Oseary assured fans in his post that they will be provided with more details, including a new start date for the tour and dates for rescheduled shows.
Madonna's "Celebration" tour promised fans an extensive array of her greatest hits, from her self-titled debut album in 1983 through her 2019 album, "Madame X." The Grammy winner planned to traverse the globe, journeying to Europe on Oct. 14 and returning to North America on Dec. 13, with the tour stretching through Jan. 30, 2024.
Madonna, whose Sticky & Sweet Tour from 2008 to 2009 still holds the record for the highest-grossing tour by a female artist, stated in a message to Page Six in January, "I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for."
The global pop superstar last toured from September 2019 to March 2020 in support of "Madame X." Fans across the globe send their wishes for Madonna's swift recovery, eagerly anticipating the postponed "Celebration" tour dates. Thousands of people are commenting on Madonna's Instagram posts and Oseary's update with messages of love and adoration, wishing her a full recovery and hoping her condition does not worsen.
