Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars' "Die With a Smile" landed No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts, and we're not surprised.

The song, which is a departure from her electronic, high-energy tracks, is a more heartfelt ballad with a pop sound. The lyrics "If the world was ending, I'd wanna be next to you" are befitting for Lady Gaga’s muse and fiancé, Michael Polansky. As revealed in a recent Vogue feature, Lady Gaga’s upcoming album, LG7 (currently untitled), is slated for a February release, with the first single dropping this October.

According to Billboard, Polansky was the one who pushed her to return to her pop roots. “Michael is the person who told me to make a new pop record. He was like, ‘Babe. I love you. You need to make pop music,'” she said. Her man added, “Like anyone would do for the person they love, I encouraged her to lean into the joy of it. On the Chromatica tour, I saw a fire in her; I wanted to help her keep that alive all the time and just start making music that made her happy.”

Compared to her Chromatica era in 2020, Lady Gaga reveals she is “so happy” these days. “That album was about an absolutely horrible time for me with my mental health,” she admitted. “I was in a really dark place. I struggled for, like, many years before that.”

Lady Gaga's pain-free Chromatica tour was eye-opening, especially compared to a decade ago when she fractured her hip during the Born This Way tour. The injury led to years of muscle pain due to fibromyalgia. “Michael and I did that tour together,” she said. “I did it pain-free! I haven’t smoked pot in years. I’ve changed. A lot. I feel like this new album, in many ways, reflects that period but from a place of happiness instead of misery. Now, Michael and I are thrilled to organize our lives – and our marriage – around our creative output as a couple.”
