The engagement period brings its bag of decisions – from your dress, the photos, the guestlist, your bridesmaids, the date and venue…the list goes on! These decisions can easily bring stress to any soon-to-be bride. Not to worry! Here are some of the best wedding movies to unwind to and dream about your special day with your bridesmaids or your fiancé!

My Best Friend’s Wedding

What better way to start this watchlist than with one starring the Queen of Rom-Coms, Julia Roberts? The movie begins with Roberts’ character believing her childhood friend Michael is contacting her to fulfill their marriage pact. She is disappointed when she finds out that Michael is actually getting married to 20-year-old Kim (Cameron Diaz) in four days. Realizing she loves him, she makes it her purpose to stop the wedding at all costs! The movie is full of plotting, mischief, and true love, making it a wedding classic!

Father of the Bride

Planning a wedding is no piece of cake, and this movie, starring Steve Martin as the father of the bride, highlights it in a comedic way. After finding out that his daughter Annie, who just came back from studying abroad, is engaged, he is overwhelmed at the thought of planning a wedding. What he believed would be a small home wedding turns out to be an extravagant event. The movie might be a bit over the top, but it’s definitely a fun watch as you brainstorm wedding ideas for your own big day

My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Another movie full of wedding planning and perhaps too much family involvement is My Big Fat Greek Wedding. In the movie, we follow Toula, who is 30 and still unmarried, which worries her Greek family. Toula enrages her father when she falls in love with Ian Miller, who is not Greek. The movie is full of countless funny scenes about the culture shock Ian experiences when meeting Toula’s Greek family. This movie shows that by loving yourself the right way, you will attract the right guy who will love you regardless of your crazy family.

27 Dresses

Ever been a bridesmaid? Well, Jane has been one 27 times! Being a perpetual bridesmaid, Jane is known to put others’ needs before her own. However, things change when her younger sister Tess steals the man of her dreams, and Jane is forced to be her maid of honor. The movie is a great reminder to stand up for yourself and that relationships cannot be based on lies. This is a great watch for a girls’ night with your bridesmaids!

The Wedding Planner

Regardless of whether you love or hate Jennifer Lopez, this movie is a fun watch! Lopez plays a professional wedding planner who doesn’t believe in love...until she is saved from a near-fatal collision by a handsome pediatrician, played by Matthew McConaughey. Determined to get a promotion, she takes on planning the wedding of internet tycoon Fran Donnelly, only to find out she has broken the number one rule of wedding planners: “Never fall in love with the groom.”

The Princess Diaries 2

Whoever said sequels were never quite as good obviously wasn’t referring to this one. As someone who grew up with The Princess Diaries, the second one is just as entertaining as the first! As Princess Mia (played by the beautiful Anne Hathaway) trains to become Queen of Genovia, she discovers that she cannot become queen unless she marries by the end of the month. Forced to find a husband, she agrees to an arranged marriage for the sake of her kingdom, only for her plans to be sabotaged by Nicholas Devereaux (Chris Pine), who is trying to seduce her into leaving the crown so he can claim the throne. The plot is very exciting, and the onscreen chemistry between Hathaway and Pine is adorable.

Runaway Bride

Afraid of cold feet? You probably won’t experience it as dramatically as it plays out in this movie. Returning with another Julia Roberts classic, Roberts plays a bride, Maggie, who’s set to have her fourth wedding after already leaving three grooms at the altar. She is branded as the “runaway bride” by journalist Ike Graham (Richard Gere), who predicts that she’ll run this time too. Determined to prove his point, Ike travels to Maggie’s hometown to document the wedding, but in the process, falls in love. While this movie might be full of unrealistic scenarios, it’s definitely one you’ll enjoy before you walk down the aisle.

Crazy Rich Asians

This might be the most recent movie on the list, but nonetheless, it is already a classic in the rom-com category. In this movie, we follow Rachel Chu as she accompanies her boyfriend, Nick, to his best friend's wedding in Singapore. Her expectations of what she thought would be an intimate wedding are turned upside down when she discovers that Nick's family is extremely wealthy. Forced into the spotlight, Rachel struggles to find her place among jealous socialites and Nick’s disapproving family. The movie might not exactly be about Rachel’s wedding, but it certainly fits into the pre-wedding season as she deals with her potential mother-in-law. This is a fun movie that you and your fiancé will equally enjoy.

You Again

Are you ever haunted by your high school days? This movie is exactly that. Kristen Bell’s character, Marni, finds out that her loving older brother is engaged to none other than her high school bully, Joanna. Upset by this fact, Marni sets out to expose Joanna’s true colors before the wedding. The rivalry between Marni and Joanna escalates, creating disaster! This movie is one that will have you laughing and wondering what you would do in that scenario.

The Princess Bride

What’s better than a beloved classic? THIS beloved classic. The Princess Bride, while being in the medieval fairytale/adventure setting, is full of comedy gold. The movie tells a story of true love between Buttercup and Westley, showing how true love can even conquer death. So, if you want to watch an ‘80s romantic comedy classic or are just here for Westley’s “As you wish,” this movie is for you!

While we hope your wedding planning is not as chaotic as these films, they are sure to offer comforting vibes and are a great way for you to relax as you prepare for your big day!
