On December 18, 2022, Elon Musk tweeted a poll asking his audience: "Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll." Out of 17,502,391 votes, 56.5% of users voted for the Tesla founder to step down from the platform, while 42.5% voted against it.

Two days later, Musk commented under his tweet that he would "resign as CEO" as soon as he found someone "foolish enough to take the job," adding, "After that, I will just run the software & servers teams."

While Musk has yet to give details on this so-called "departure," the news has already received 61.2k upvotes on Reddit and 86.7k likes on one viral tweet.

But those who aren't big fans of Musk shouldn't be quick to celebrate just yet – Musk has not officially announced his plans to resign as Twitter's CEO anytime soon and will not do so until he finds a "suitable candidate." The business mogul hasn't discussed a timeframe, nor has he stated where this event fits in his list of priorities. Even if he were to replace himself as CEO, Musk will still own Twitter.

The magnate purchased the platform on April 14, 2022, and sealed it on October 27, 2022, for $44 billion, becoming the biggest shareholder of Twitter. It hasn’t even been two months yet, and Musk has already made massive changes to the social media giant. He also released the infamous Twitter files, which detail the company’s corruption, including the alleged backhanded deals between former employees and politicians.

With all of this being said, it may take some time before Elon Musk finds someone else to replace him, as he (most likely) has more plans for the site, having just purchased it in late October.
