How To Wear A Dress This Winter (While Staying Warm)

As a Southern California native, wearing a dress from the months of October to March is no big deal. However, if you’re an Evie girl who lives in the freezing cold, it’s difficult to find functional (and warm!) ways to style your most feminine attire.

You may have already seen some winter style inspo on IG and TikTok – lots of patterned knits, blues, and skirts – but there aren't a ton of cute posts related to wearing dresses in the snow. It can be easy to simply opt for thicker pants, but there’s no need to sacrifice your personal style during the colder seasons

Need to follow some easy style inspo? Fashion influencer Lola Olson (@lolaeolson) features daily content related to dressing for freezing cold temperatures, and she maintains that feminine style you crave in the winter months.

If cold temps and snowflakes are in your forecast, we've got you covered! We’ve compiled easy tips and a few of our favorite winter pieces to keep you warm and girlie all season long.

Add Fleece Lined Tights

Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but fleece lined tights are going to be your favorite  winter essential this year, especially if you want to be able to wear dresses and skirts. A delightfully easy item to find and wear, fleece lined tights are classy and warm – our two main goals in the cold winter months!

Layer with a Wool Coat

Haven’t invested in a quality wool coat? Now is the time. Neutral wool coats, like black, brown, or gray, pair well with dresses, jeans, trousers, and every other winter outfit in your lineup. A standard length wool coat should be longer than your knit dress, which will give your look balance and coordination. Paired with fleece lined leggings, you won’t even remember the feeling of cold temps!

Only Buy Dresses in Thick Fabrics

You shouldn’t repurpose your summer dresses for cold weather, even with a ton of layering. Instead, find dresses made of thicker, heavier fabrics that won’t lift up in the wind and snow. Just as you would pick a heavier knit sweater over a summer top, find dresses that are cozy and warm on their own – and then layer for freezing cold days.

Style with Knee High Boots

While the shorter boot gets a lot of attention this time of year, the knee high boot is also taking some of the spotlight, which is a fashionable benefit for you! Invest in a classic pair of tall boots that will last for several winter seasons – and don’t forget to bundle up with a pair of thick socks. Not sure how to style a tall, chunkier boot in a feminine way? Check out this adorable style inspo!

Add a Sweater for Extra Coziness

The oversized sweater and mini skirt combo is on trend this season, but there is no reason you can’t channel a similar look, even when the temperature is dropping outside. A long slip dress or maxi dress paired with a slouchy sweater and boots is a cute look that is also warm, or you can try a mini skirt with an oversized knit. These outfits are perfect for a holiday party or winter date night!

Don’t Forget Winter Accessories

Another easy way to layer in the winter is with cozy accessories. Beanies, headbands, scarves, and earmuffs will add warmth to your look, and will also give you that classic Christmas movie look we all love this time of year. Winter accessories are also a great way to minimize bulk (even with all the layers) without sacrificing coziness.
