The ceremony, officiated by Archbishop Christopher Bryant, was live-streamed, allowing admirers worldwide to witness this significant moment in Washington's spiritual journey.

Dressed in a gray T-shirt and black sweatpants, Washington expressed his gratitude and reflection during the ceremony, stating, "In one week I turn 70. It took a while but I'm here." He emphasized the transformative power of faith, adding, "If [God] can do this for me, there's nothing He can't do for you. The sky literally is the limit."

His wife, Pauletta Washington, tearfully supported him during the event, highlighting their 46-year journey together. Washington has openly discussed his faith throughout his career.

Washington's spiritual journey has been profound. He recalled a significant experience at the West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles during the 1980s, describing it as the moment he was "filled with the Holy Spirit."

More recently, he shared a personal encounter where, during prayer, he believed he saw the face of God, reinforcing his deep connection to his faith.

In a recent essay for Esquire, Washington addressed the challenges of discussing religion in Hollywood, noting, "It's not talked about. It's not fashionable. It's not sexy. But that doesn't mean people in Hollywood don't believe." He further stated, "I don't care what anyone thinks...I'm free now."

Washington’s openness about his beliefs stands out in an industry that's extremely hostile to Christians. Yet he is not alone. Celebrities like Chris Pratt, Mark Wahlberg, Gwen Stefani, Candace Cameron Bure, and others have also explored or embraced their Christian faith publicly, often facing criticism but remaining true to their convictions.

Washington’s baptism is another reminder of how faith continues to resonate, even in spaces where it might not always be welcome.
