Blake Lively’s latest film, the adaptation of Collen Hoover's It Ends With Us, has been plagued by a series of controversies that have cast a shadow over its release despite overwhelmingly positive reviews.

From accusations of insensitivity in promoting the film to rumors of on-set feuds with co-star and director Justin Baldoni, Lively has found herself at the center of a media storm.

The latest controversy centers around a 2008 interview with Elle Magazine, where Lively discussed her desire to have daughters and then stated that if she didn't, she hoped her sons would be "trannies" so she could pass down her collection of shoes and handbags.

“I hope to have a few girls one day," stated Lively. "If not girls, they’d better be trannies. Because I have some amazing shoes and bags and stories that need to be appreciated.”

This isn’t the only instance where Lively used the term. In a 2009 interview with Allure Magazine, she described feeling like a “tranny” due to her height and the elaborate outfits she often wore.

Additionally, in an on-screen interview alongside her Gossip Girl co-star Leighton Meester, Lively dismissed rumors about their relationship, sarcastically suggesting that the gossip portrayed them as “men and trannies.”

These revelations have sparked online outrage, with many accusing Lively of hypocrisy given her public image as a liberal advocate. However, there has also been some pushback, with commenters noting that the term did not carry the same weight in the 2000s as it does today.

Lively has also faced criticism for an interview with Norwegian journalist Kjersti Flaa who congratulated her on her “little bump” after Lively announced her pregnancy. Lively’s response of “Congrats on your little bump,” was seen as an unnecessary retort.

Additionally, Lively has been called out for using a movie with somber themes to promote a new haircare line, with critics calling her insensitive and opportunistic. Others say she's just being a good businesswoman.

Lively’s involvement in It Ends With Us marks a significant moment in her career, aligning her with a project that addresses serious social issues. However, the film’s production seems to be overshadowed by a string of negative headlines.
